Mitos más comunes sobre alojarse en hostels

Nowadays, almost everybody knows what a hostel is and have heard how this kind of places are a favorite for backpackers. Even though the quality of hostels has improved throughout the years and are getting better and better every day, there are still some myths around that have become kind of urban legends. In this article we want to set the record straight about these silly myths that are sometimes just the result of not having the correct information.

There are only parties and drunk people around

There is no doubt that right now there has been a growth in these so called “Party hostels”. In these hostels it is common to find a lot of young people drinking and partying nonstop. They normally say it in their description so people that are looking for this kind of trip can enjoy them and just have fun all night every night.

But, these are not the only type of hostels you can find. Nowadays, there are a lot of relax, chill, family friendly hostels. Looking online you can even find some themed ones (Animal lovers, beach hostels, organic hostels ). There is a hostel for almost every taste.

Everything in a hostel is to share

It is commonly believed that all the things that a hostel offers is to be shared with other guests and that you won’t find privacy in them. Is just another false myth, nowadays, almost all of the hostels not only have the space for shared dorms but, also have some private rooms with private bathrooms for those who would like to experience the fun atmosphere in a hostel but want to have their own space and silence during the night. It is of course a little bit more expensive but also a great option to have both experiences.

In a hostel you will only find homeless, poor people

This is a myth that is widely believed for those who don´t travel but, nothing can be more far away from the truth. Normally, at hostels you will find people of all kinds but, the most commons are backpackers that are travelling around the world with a certain budget and know that they can go farther away if they stay in hostels and not hotels.

Sometimes, you find people that took holidays from their jobs, are taking a gap year from school or a sabbatical even. They stay in hostels not because they don´t have money, but they know how to manage it better and just want to have more fun that being alone in a hotel.

Hostels are dirty and dangerous places, that is why they are cheap

Not at all! Not because hostels are cheap it means that they are going to be dirty or dangerous. Nowadays, you can find hostels that are even better, cleaner, more modern and are even better located than a hotel. There are some luxury hotels that would blow your mind. Don´t be afraid, paying for a cheap bed doesn´t mean you will not get quality during your stay.

You won’t have a concierge service, so you will have to get all the information by yourself

It is true that hostels don’t have this normal concierge counter but normally, the receptionists that work in a hostel are well travelled people that will be willing to help you with everything that you need. Being travelers themselves they know what is like to feel lost in a place so will for sure make their best to help you.

Most of the time, the staff are locals that will know a lot of secret places or can give you good tips to enjoy the city like they normally do it.

You will be at risk of getting your valuables while staying in hostels

A lot of people believe that staying in hostels and sharing a room is risky for their valuables. There is nothing to worry about, not only most of the hostels have lockers service so you would feel safer but, normally backpackers are very honest people that are not looking for trouble.

It´s time to put your fears behind and try the experience of staying in hostels, we guarantee you, you won´t regret it.
